Recent Ebay Purchases

Hooray for Ebay!

Hooray for Ebay!

I love going to the post office to collect the bountiful harvest of my Ebay purchases.  Although it lacks the suspense and exhileration of opening the latest and greatest boxes of memorabilia-stuffed products, I do find a great deal of joy in getting good deals on young prospects.  Here’s a list of some of the stuff that has made its way to my house recently.

2007 Bowman Chrome Draft COREY BROWN Auto Lot (X3)—$22.00

2007 Bowman Chrome Draft COREY BROWN Refractor Auto #357/500—$12.00

  • Yes, I like Corey Brown.  He has incredible tools that just need polishing.  I like his potential to be a power hitting 20 HR 20 SB-type player for the A’s in the next couple seasons.  His K rate is a big red light for me, but at the prices I got for 4 autos, I have faith that his athleticism and work ethic will aid him in improving on these numbers.

2005 Bowman Heritage JAY BRUCE RC Auto—$44.50

  • Not too bad for an auto that was selling at double this price about a month ago.  Let’s remember that Bruce is still just 21 years old with a super bright future.  He has held his own against MLB pitching and currently owns an 11 game hitting streak.  Fear not Reds fans, Bruce is the real deal.

2007 Bowman Chrome Draft FREDDIE FREEMAN Refractor Lot (x3)—$29.88

  • Just under $10 a pop for one of the best hitters in Single-A.  Freeman has rocketed up prospect charts and may be on the fast track to Atlanta.  Since purchasing this lot, I have seen the same refractors selling for about $15 each.

2007 David Price 34 Count RC Lot—$30.55

  • This lot contained 7 Bowman Chrome Draft, 9 Bowman Draft, 4 Bowman Draft Gold, 11 Tristar Prospects Plus, and 3 Tristar Prospects Plus Protential.  I think the Chromes, alone, almost completely pay for the lot on their own.  That makes everything else gravy.  If Price gets the nod for the Rays this season, this lot could prove to be a big bargain.

2007 Bowman Sterling J.P. Arencibia Autograph Lot (x3)—$29.25

  • Under $10 an autographed card of a super slugging catching prospect seems like a great deal to me.   Toronto’s catching situation is not securely locked down for the long term future and Arencibia has handled his promotion very well.  These cards can pay dividends sooner rather than later.

2006 Bowman Chrome Draft SCOTT COUSINS Refractor Lot (X5)—$12.99

  • Cousins is super toolsy and a low-risk investment at this price.  He was injured at the early part of the year, but has 7 HR and 10 SB in about 120 AB’s at High A Jupiter.  It will be interesting to see where Cousins fits into the Marlins plans as he has Cameron Maybin and John Raynor in front of him.  All told, Cousins is someone that I think will be playing somewhere in a couple of seasons.

OK, there’s a few for you to chew on.

  • Which ones do you think are good deals?  Did I overpay for anything?
  • Which prospects do you have your eye on?
  • Feel free to share your recent purchases and projections
