Nolan Reimold–En Fuego

Outshining Matt Wieters in the playoffs

Outshining Matt Wieters in the playoffs

Nolan Reimold  was red-hot for the Bowie Baysox over the last 10 games of the regular season hitting .342 with 6 HR 10 RBI and 9 runs scored.  Last night, Reimold went berserk against the Akron Aeros going 4-5 with 3 HR and 8 RBI.  This performance was on the heels of the first game of the playoff series where he hit a HR.

I wrote about Reimold almost a month ago in my second $100 Well Spent post, profiling him as a future power-hitting RF for the vastly improved Baltimore Orioles.  At that time, Reimold’s 2005 Bowman Chrome Draft RC’s were selling for about $1.00 each.  After his recent surge, the lowest prices for those same chromes are at $2.00 each (shipping not included).

Reimold works counts well and has an athletic and powerfully built 6-4 210 lb. frame that launches balls to all fields with ease.  He is an above average corner outifielder, whose arm is strong enough for RF.  The big question with Reimold revolves around his ability to stay healthy.  Reimold has been ravaged by injuries over the past couple of seasons, but has been able to stay healthy for the entire 2008 campaign.

In regards to his immediate ML future, Reimold will have a difficult time cracking through a solid OF of Nick Markakis, Adam Jones, and Luke Scott, but he has the long term potential to be a .270 25 HR 85 RBI hitter as soon as next season.  Reimold is slotted to play in the Arizona Fall League in October along with fellow O’s prospects Matt Wieters, Brandon Snyder, Blake Davis and 3 yet to be named pitchers.  Reimold’s performance will go a long way towards determining whether or not he starts next season in Baltimore or Norfolk.
